Issues-Based Framework for Bio 101

What are the critical components of biology to which all students should be introduced during their undergraduate years?

At a 1992 conference, CELS advisors articulated a curricular framework for introductory biology courses. The Issues-Based Framework for Bio 101is grounded in a belief that our future citizens should understand the complexities of the living world so that they can cope with the uncertainties of the future. Today, the need for a framework for contemporary introductory biology curricula is just as vital as it was in 1992. Thus, we have included this framework in the CELS monograph,Professional Societies and the Faculty Scholar: Promoting Scholarship and Learning in the Life Sciences.
